My Background

About Me

HOW THIS ALL GOT STARTED: This was an absolute miracle, as I was working full time for Kaiser Permanente, I was asked to volunteer as an inspirational speaker to the inmates that just got out of prison by the President of a prison ministry in San Diego Ca. For 5 years, right after my shift at the Hospital, I would hurry to the center to speak to the men.
After 5 years of volunteering, the Board members and Senior Pastors, informed me that I was making a great impact on these men’s lives and I was the only volunteer that lasted that long, and they wanted to hire me full time. I was ordained as a pastor and a prison volunteer Chaplain in 2010. Every Saturday I would go into the prisons and preach and every other Sunday I would preach in the church at the center. I was hired as the Assistant Director of the facility.
Then something wonderful happened, the leaders of the center decided to send me all the difficult clients that got out of prison, that would not follow instructions or submit to authority. They gave me the title as a Spiritual Advisor, as well as the Assistant director. I absolutely loved this, I loved working with these troubled men and finding out what was going on inside of them and earning their trust and respect. They would tell me their innermost feelings and what they were going through and what they went through, and why they were rebellious. I absolutely loved this opportunity because anyone can work with a client or a man out of prison that follows all the rules, but what about the ones that rebel and buck the system?
They gave me all the rejects and I loved every one of them. This became my passion, my drive. I have learned through a lot of hard work, failures, sacrifice and much humility, that in every man, no matter how cruel, tough or hard he appears, there’s a man crying out for help, that doesn’t know how to ask.

ABOUT MY BACKGROUND: My biological father left my mother when she was 5 months pregnant with me.
I have a younger sister and brother and one older sister but my step father singled me out of them all.
My stepfather had a deep hate for me that I never understood.
I always showed him respect even though he did not show respect for me. I made good grades, did all my chores and stayed out of trouble, but I could never make him happy.
He would never come to my school competitions. When my family and I returned from one of my competitions and they told my step dad that we won, he wouldn't even look at me, he would just look away, smile and nod his head. He would regularly tell me, I was retarded, I would never amount to anything, and no one would ever love me.
He would also tell me that he wanted me either dead or in prison and he did everything he could to fulfill that desire.
When we were home alone, he would beg me to hit him so he could send me to jail. I would hold my hands tightly behind me gripping them tightly to keep from hitting him even though he would beat me.
I remember telling myself once, after I was beaten "He beats me like a man, but I'm not a man, I'm just a boy."
When we were in public, he would mock me and brag to people how he beat me and how I cried like a baby. He once told me that I was to always smile and act like I was happy in public, this was difficult for me, but I did it.
There were times he would bust in my room in the middle of the night and beat me and never tell me why.
Later I found out that he would wake up in the middle of the night while I was still sleeping and tell my mom "I just know he's done something so I might as well get him now."

My stepfather did everything he could to break me including putting me out of the house, however when I finally left home for college and later joined the Marine Corps, I used that hate for my drive to succeed. Unfortunately, I have met many youth who have been abused as I was, resulting in a very negative effect on them both mentally and emotionally.
As a Youth Advocate, I will assist these men in recognizing their true potential, identity and purpose in life.
