HOW THIS ALL GOT STARTED: This was an absolute miracle, as I was working full time for Kaiser Permanente, I was asked to volunteer as an inspirational speaker to the inmates that just got out of prison by the President of a prison ministry in San Diego Ca. For 5 years, right after my shift at the Hospital, I would hurry to the center to speak to the men. After 5 years of volunteering, the Board members and Senior Pastors, informed me that I was making a great impact on these men’s lives and I was the only volunteer that lasted that long, and they wanted to hire me full time. I was ordained as a pastor and a prison volunteer Chaplain in 2010. Every Saturday I would go into the prisons and preach and every other Sunday I would preach in the church at the center. I was hired as the Assistant Director of the facility. Then something wonderful happened, the leaders of the center decided to send me all the difficult clients that got out of prison, that would not follow instructions or submit to authority. They gave me the title as a Spiritual Advisor, as well as the Assistant director. I absolutely loved this, I loved working with these troubled men and finding out what was going on inside of them and earning their trust and respect. They would tell me their innermost feelings and what they were going through and what they went through, and why they were rebellious. I absolutely loved this opportunity because, anyone can work with a client or a man out of prison that follows all the rules, but what about the ones that rebel and buck the system? They gave me all the rejects and I loved every one of them. This became my passion, my drive. I have learned through a much hard work, failures, sacrifice and humility, that in every man, no matter how cruel, tough or hard he appears, there’s a man crying out for help, that doesn’t know how to ask. MY MISSION STATEMENT: To change the three strikes, you’re out ‘rule’ mentality, by mentoring, building hope and value, through newfound opportunities for men.’ MY WHY? While serving in the Marines, as one of the leaders in Mogadishu Somalia, in Black Hawk Down, I placed something in my heart, I told myself, no matter what it took, even at the risk of my very own personal life, I will leave no man behind. This mentality is still embedded in my heart. Many men are being released from incarceration after serving their time and have no idea what to do next. The only connections they have are the very same ones that got them there in the first place. I want to give these men new opportunities, new connections and other opportunities, to make something of their life that they can be proud of, while assisting them in building a solid relationship with the Lord.
